Original Navin Field, Briggs/Tiger Stadium Green Box Seat Folding Chair.

Original Navin Field, Briggs/Tiger Stadium Green Box Seat Folding Chair. Used at Detroit's Iconic Tiger Stadium from 1912-1999. Guaranteed authentic with a Hologram & matching Letter of Authenticity from SportsCard Central Authentics. Excellent Used Condition. Not updated or modified at all. Original Condition. See pics. Frank Navin was essentially the team's first (and most important) employee, and with money he won in a card game, bought an interest in the Tigers and eventually became owner. He brought us Ty Cobb and 3 trips to the World Series in the franchise's first 8 years (1907-09) soon after, In 1911 he began construction on a 23,000 seat stadium to match the burgeoning interest in the teams growing cadre of fans. This offered seat was there on opening day and witnessed 87 years of historic achievements and Hall of Fame Careers. OPening Day was (Delayed one day by rain) ultimately Saturday April 19,1912. The first game to be played at Navin Field was scheduled for Thursday, April 18, 1912, with the Detroit Tigers hosting the Cleveland Naps. To commemorate this special Opening Day of the season, many activities were scheduled, all to take place on the 18th. A parade featuring both teams was to work its way from the middle of downtown Detroit to the new ballpark at the corner of Michigan and Trumbull Avenues. After the game the Tigers and Naps were to attend a banquet in their honor at the elegant Hotel Pontchartrain, sponsored by the Detroit Board of Commerce. However, once again, the best plans did not occur as planned. It rained hard on April 18 and the game was postponed. The baseball park the Tigers had played in in 1911 was called Bennett Field. Immediately after the last game of the 1911 season, the small wooden structure was demolished, and Navin Field was erected on the same plot of ground. Made of steel and concrete, a new construction concept at the time, it was reported to have cost around $300,000 to build. The rain started during the evening of Wednesday, April 17, and lasted most of Thursday, causing the rainout. On Friday the game was also postponed; officially the reason was unplayable grounds. This was plausible, considering that the field was so new and had taken on a lot of water. This was largely the result of the park’s new tarpaulin: It was hailed as a perforation-type (rather than a solid sheet), which was supposed to make it less vulnerable to wind. Unfortunately, excessive amounts of rainwater drained through the perforated tarp’s holes, causing a muddy field. But another possible reason for the postponement (which was never listed as official) was that Frank Navin was a superstitious gambler who did not want to start the season on Friday, which he referred to as the hoodoo day of the week. There was some talk that the game would be shifted to Cleveland, which had a dry field. In fact Ban Johnson, president of the American League, had bought off on this idea. The opening game was originally scheduled as the start of a four-game series with the Naps. It turned into a two-game series. If these games had been shifted to Cleveland, the first game at Navin Field would have been pushed back until April 27, another reason for trying to play the games in Detroit. Despite the delays, the banquet went off as originally scheduled on Thursday evening. The parade and game took place on Saturday. The first pitch was thrown out by Mayor William Barlum Thompson of Detroit, who threw it to Charley Bennett, a popular ex-Tiger catcher from the 19th century, and the namesake of old Bennett Park. The starting lineups were, for Cleveland: 1. Jack Graney, LF 2. Ivy Olson, SS 3. Joe Jackson, CF 4. Nap Lajoie, 2B 5. Buddy Ryan, RF 6. Eddie Hohnhorst, 1B 7. Terry Turner, 3B 8. Ted Easterly, C 9. Vean Gregg, P And for Detroit: 1. Ossie Vitt, LF 2. Baldy Louden, 3B 3. Ty Cobb, CF 4. Sam Crawford, RF 5. Jim Delahanty, 2B 6. Del Gainer, 1B 7. Donie Bush, SS 8. Oscar Stanage, C 9. George Mullin, P As can be seen, the starting lineups included three future members of Baseball’s Hall of Fame: charter member Ty Cobb, Wahoo Sam Crawford, and Nap Lajoie. Many might argue that a fourth player, Shoeless Joe Jackson, should be in the Hall of Fame, too. Detroit manager Hughie Jennings — himself a future Hall of Famer — gave right-hander George Mullin the game ball. Mullin was starting his ninth home opener in 10 years. The first pitch by Mullin was a called strike to Jack Graney, the game was finally started, and the history of Navin Field had begun. Cleveland wasted little time scoring the first run at the new park, although the Naps did get help from the Tigers. The game’s third batter, Shoeless Joe Jackson, reached first on a base on balls, immediately stole second, and raced home on an error by Tigers second baseman Jim Delahanty on Nap Lajoie’s grounder. The run was unearned. Left-hander Vean Gregg, 23-7 with a league-leading 1.80 ERA the year before, was Cleveland manager Harry Davis’s starter. In the first inning, Ossie Vitt singled and was sacrificed to second by Baldy Louden. On the very first pitch he saw at Navin Field, Cobb rapped a base hit, scoring Vitt. The Georgia Peach went to second on Crawford’s single. Then it got exciting. Cobb and Crawford performed a double steal as Delahanty struck out. While on second and third, Cobb and Crawford performed yet another successful double steal. The aggressive baserunning produced Cobb’s first run at Navin Field — on his steal of home. The game went back and forth for the next seven innings. Cleveland scored two in the third on an infield single and a bases-loaded hit batsman to take a 3-2 lead, but Detroit came back in its half to tie it up, and might have scored more but the bold and daring Cobb was thrown out at home plate trying to score from second base on Delahanty’s grounder back to the pitcher. In the fifth Cleveland went ahead by two runs on a single, a double, and a bad error by second baseman Delahanty. The score stayed 5-3 until the bottom of the eighth, when Detroit tied the game on Cobb’s single, Crawford’s double, and Delahanty’s two-run single past third baseman Terry Turner. The game went into extra innings. In the top of the 11th, Cleveland put runners at second and third with just one out, thanks to an error and Joe Jackson’s ground-rule double into the overflow crowd in center field. Because of the huge throng in attendance (according to the turnstile count it was 24,382, but estimates put it at closer to 26,000), many hundreds of fans had to stand in the nether reaches of the outfield in a cordoned-off area. This had resulted in five ground-rule doubles, four by Cleveland and one by Detroit. The Cleveland Plain Dealer said that Jackson's drive would likely have gone for a triple had it not been for the ground rule that held him at second — and more importantly, held Olson at third. Mullin issued an intentional walk to Lajoie, which loaded the bases. The strategy paid off: The next two batters grounded out without a run being able to score. In the Detroit half of the 11th, Del Gainer grounded out, but Donie Bush singled and Oscar Stanage followed suit. Bush went to third as Stanage was out at second trying to take an extra base. That made it two outs with Bush on third. Even though Mullin had already given up 13 hits and walked four, Jennings elected to let him hit for himself — he was a good hitter, having batted .286 in 1911. Mullin came through. He singled to left, scoring Bush with the winning run. It was quite a way to inaugurate a new ballpark. Sitting in this chair, one can reminisce about all the sights it has seen from Cobb to Heillman, Greenberg, Gehringer, Kaline and the opponents, Ruth, Gehrig, Lajoie, and the World Series Wins and Losses.

Several Detroit businessmen organized the Detroit Hockey Club, Inc. in 1926 and purchased the Victoria Cougars hockey team, along with a site at the corner of Grand River Avenue and McGraw Street to construct an arena. In July 1926, the Detroit Hockey Club unveiled drawings for the Olympia Stadium to be built on the site. The cornerstone for the building was laid by Mayor John W. Smith on March 8, 1927. The Olympia opened on October 15, 1927; at that time the only other buildings that exceeded its seating capacity were Madison Square Garden and the London Olympia. The opening event was the International Stampede and Rodeo, which ran from October 15 to October 22. Shortly thereafter, the primary tenants of the building, the NHL Cougars, began their long residence. The Cougars played their first game at the Olympia on November 22, 1927, and Detroit's Johnny Sheppard scored the first goal at the new building. However, the visiting Ottawa Senators defeated the Cougars, 2–1. The Cougars later became the Falcons and finally, in 1932, were named the Detroit Red Wings by new owner James E. Norris. In addition to the Red Wings, the Olympia was also home to the Detroit Olympics International Hockey League minor league team in the 1930s, the BAA's Detroit Falcons from 1946 to 1947, and the NBA's Detroit Pistons from 1957 to 1961; that period marked the only time until the opening of Little Caesars Arena in 2017 that the Red Wings and Pistons shared the same arena on a full-time basis. It hosted the NHL All-Star Game in 1950, 1952, 1954, and 1955, the NBA All-Star Game in 1959 and the NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Championship (known as the "Frozen Four") in 1977 and 1979. The Olympia was also a major venue for boxing through the International Boxing Club (featuring such prominent fights as Jake LaMotta's defeats of Sugar Ray Robinson) and professional wrestling, as well as other events such as the 1931 American Legion Convention which was addressed by President Herbert Hoover, and regular visits by the Harlem Globetrotters, Ice Capades, Shipstads and Johnson Ice Follies. It hosted concerts by The Beatles on September 6, 1964 and August 13, 1966, as well as concerts by other popular performers and bands, including Led Zeppelin and Elvis Presley. By the late 1970s, the neighborhood surrounding the Olympia had been in decline since the 1967 riots. In 1977, the Red Wings announced that they would be moving to a proposed arena in suburban Pontiac. The city of Detroit would counter with proposed a riverfront arena for much less rent that Pontiac was seeking. The package included operational control of both the new arena, nearby Cobo Arena and the adjoining parking structures. The Red Wings accepted Detroit's offer. On December 15, 1979, three days after the first event held at Joe Louis Arena, the Red Wings played their final home game at the Olympia, a 4–4 tie against the Quebec Nordiques. Attendance at that game was 15,609. They would move to Joe Louis Arena on December 27. The final event at the building took place on February 21, 1980. Demolished in September 1987.

Frank Navin Tigers Owner PSA/DNA Autograph Deceased 1935

Frank Navin Tigers Owner PSA/DNA Autograph Deceased 1935. This PSA/DNA Certified Autograph is a cut autograph and one of the very VERY few Navin certified autographs. He passed away just after the Tigers finally won the Series in 1935. He was heart broken after they lost their 4th series in 4 tries in 1934, and was simply ecstatic that they fil=nally closed the deal in 1935.

Born in Adrian, Michigan, Navin was one of nine children of Irish immigrants. He attended the Detroit College of Law and worked as both a lawyer and accountant. In 1902, Navin was a bookkeeper at the insurance offices of Samuel F. Angus when Angus led a syndicate that purchased the Detroit Tigers. Angus brought the 31-year-old Navin with him as the team's bookkeeper. He also served as "secretary, treasurer, business manager, farm director, chief ticket seller, advertising manager, and any other position that demanded immediate attention." In 1903, Navin bought $5000 in stock in the team, reportedly with money won in a card game. Navin had an eye for talent, and he built a team that won three straight pennants from 1907–1909. His signing of Ty Cobb and Hughie Jennings was instrumental in the development of the Tigers championship teams. But Angus soon tired of the Tigers' massive monetary losses, and told Navin to find a buyer. Navin quickly cut a deal with the richest man in Michigan, lumber baron William Clyman Yawkey. However, Yawkey died before the deal closed, and Navin persuaded his son, Bill Yawkey, to complete the deal. Yawkey had little involvement in the Tigers' day-to-day operations, largely leaving those in the hands of Navin. In January 1908, Yawkey sold Navin almost half the club, making him for all intents and purposes a full partner. Navin then became team president in name as well as in fact. Baseball was not a side business for Navin. It was his principal business and passion. Navin once said: "No game is cleaner, healthier or more scientific. (Baseball brings) thousands of devotees out into the open air and the sunshine and distracts them from every contaminating influence." And legendary Detroit News sports editor H. G. Salsinger wrote that "Navin was one of the few owners who knew the playing end of the game as well as the business end." Reputation as a penny-pincher Despite his love of the game, Navin developed a reputation as a penny-pincher, which was not surprising given he was trained as an accountant. A 1904 letter he wrote to Hall of Famer Sam Crawford adds to the reputation. After hitting .338 for the Tigers in 1903, Crawford took his used uniform home to Wahoo, Nebraska, prompting Navin to send the following letter: Kindly forward last season's uniform to the Detroit Ball Club at once, so it can be put in shape for spring practice. As those uniforms are paid for by the Detroit club, they are, of course, the property of the Detroit club and should have been returned at the close of last season. Navin's tightfisted nature came in part because unlike most of the other owners, he had no income apart from the Tigers. In 1919, after Yawkey's death, Navin bought 15 shares from the Yawkey estate to become half-owner of the Tigers. However, without Yawkey's fortune to fall back on, Navin had to take on additional investors to keep afloat. With this in mind, he brokered the sale of 25 percent of the Yawkey interest to auto-body manufacturer Walter Briggs, Sr., and another 25 percent to wheelmaker John Kelsey. After Kelsey's death, Briggs bought Kelsey's interest and became a full partner with Navin, though he stayed in the background. Navin's tough negotiations and salary battles with Tiger players are legendary. In the 1920s, Tigers slugger Bob "Fats" Fothergill always had a weight problem, and Navin constantly rode Fothergill about it. When Fothergill came to Navin's office in the winter to negotiate his contract, he wore a big, heavy overcoat to conceal the weight he had put on in the offseason. Navin figured out what Fothergill was up to and turned the heat way up in his office. Navin then sat back and engaged Fothergill in a long, drawn-out conversation about his family, hunting, and anything but the contract. As sweat poured off Fothergill, Navin suggested that he take off the coat, but Fothergill insisted he was comfortable. When the conversation finally got around to the contract, Fothergill wanted to get out of Navin's hot office so badly that he accepted Navin's first offer. Years later, when pitcher Elden Auker was called up to the Tigers in 1933, Navin told him: "Elden, we're bringing you up here as a starting pitcher. We think you have an opportunity to be a major league pitcher. I don't have a lot of money. My philosophy for starting pitchers is when they give you the ball, I expect you to pitch nine innings. I can't afford to pay you to start a ballgame and pay three or four others to finish it." Ty Cobb and Frank Navin pose as Cobb signs a $5000 ($129,333 in 2012) contract for 1908 after Cobb's bitter holdout. Navin's knowledge of the game and his reputation for penny-pinching are both reflected in his relationship with Ty Cobb. In 1905, a young Cobb tried out with the Tigers, and many laughed at the skinny kid's eager tryout. But Navin was impressed with Cobb's effort and signed him for $1500.[8] Each year thereafter, Navin and Cobb engaged in prolonged contract negotiations, with Cobb holding out at times, and Navin ultimately paying what was needed to retain the best batter in baseball. In 1925, the Tigers were offered an opportunity to purchase a young Paul Waner from the San Francisco Seals, but Navin was not willing to pay the $40,000 asking price.[9] Cobb, who was the team's manager, was angered at Navin's refusal to sign Waner, and later said that their relationship deteriorated so much that "I couldn't stand to look at Navin." In 1911, Navin tore down the Tigers' longtime home, Bennett Park, and built a new concrete-and-steel facility on the same site with a seating capacity of 23,000. The new park, named "Navin Field", opened on April 20, 1912. Renamed Briggs Stadium in 1938, and then Tiger Stadium in 1961, the park built by Navin remained the Tigers' home until 2000. In 1924, as Detroit grew, Navin built a second deck on his stadium, increasing the seating capacity to 30,000. In May 1912, Navin found himself embroiled in the first player strike in American League history. During a game in New York, Ty Cobb jumped into the stands and attacked a handicapped heckler who had been taunting Cobb with racial epithets. When American League President Ban Johnson suspended Cobb indefinitely, the Tigers voted to strike, refusing to play until the suspension was lifted. When Ban Johnson threatened Navin with a $5,000 per game fine if he failed to field a team, Navin told manager Hughie Jennings to find replacement players. As the Tigers were on the road in Philadelphia, Jennings recruited eight replacement "Tigers" from a neighborhood in North Philadelphia. The replacement Tigers lost 24-2 to the Philadelphia Athletics. The regular Tigers returned after a one-game strike. In 1920 Navin played a key role in the creation of the office of Commissioner of Baseball and the appointment of Judge Kenesaw Mountain Landis as the first Commissioner. The American League owners had become divided into two factions. One faction, the Red Sox, White Sox and Yankees, sought to remove Ban Johnson as the league's president. The other faction, the Tigers, Indians, Athletics, Browns, and Senators, known as the "Loyal Five", supported Johnson. When the Black Sox Scandal broke after the 1920 season, the White Sox, Red Sox and Yankees threatened to pull out of the American League and join a new 12-team National League. The enlarged league would include a new team in Detroit unrelated to the Tigers — an obvious attempt to push out Navin, a longtime Johnson loyalist. However, Navin was in no mood for another war and persuaded the other five clubs to agree to appoint a new National Commission of non-baseball men. Judge Landis was tapped as chairman, but would only accept an appointment as sole commissioner, with nearly unlimited power over the game. The owners, desperate to fight the perception that baseball was crooked, readily agreed. Navin developed a very close relationship with Landis, and Landis reportedly called Navin as many as 20 times a day for advice. After the other American League owners forced Johnson on an indefinite sabbatical in January 1927, Navin became acting president of the American League. Johnson returned in time for the start of the 1927 season, but was forced out entirely after the season, and Navin served as acting president until Ernest Barnard was elected as permanent successor. In 1931, Navin was nearly ruined by the Great Depression and by his losses betting on horse racing. Navin had a lifelong love of gambling on horse races, a quirk that was overlooked by his friend, Judge Landis. (Navin also worked for a time as a croupier at a turn of the century gambling house in Detroit. He was thus forced to rely more and more on Briggs' money to keep the Tigers competitive. By 1933, the Great Depression (and a losing team) had cut attendance at Navin Field to a third of what it had been a decade earlier. Navin contemplated selling the franchise and even entertained an offer from Ty Cobb. But Navin decided not to sell and tried to sign Babe Ruth, hoping to revive interest in the team. Instead, he ended up buying Mickey Cochrane from Connie Mack for $100,000. Cochrane proved to be the sparkplug that helped the Tigers win two consecutive pennants in 1934 and 1935. After the Tigers lost the 1934 World Series to the Gashouse Gang from St. Louis, the 64-year-old Navin was reportedly heartbroken, having seen his teams win four American League pennants, only to lose four World Series. In October 1935, the Tigers finally won their World Series championship, and six weeks later, on November 13, 1935, Navin died. Navin had been riding one of his horses at the Detroit Riding and Hunt Club when he suffered a heart attack and fell from the horse. Navin was buried in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield, Michigan where the family mausoleum was decorated by Corrado Parducci and is guarded by two tigers by American animalier Frederick Roth.

Bill Freehan Detroit Tigers Catcher 4x6 Card PSA/DNA Certified Autograph

Bill Freehan 4x6 Card PSA/DNA Certified Autograph. Freehan added "1968 World Champs" in beautiful cursive. a 10/10 autograph. Freehan was more than a fan favorite. How is an 11 time All Star who had the highest fielding percentage as a catcher not get in the Hall of Fame???

William Ashley Freehan (born November 29, 1941)[1] is an American former professional baseball player. He played his entire fifteen-year Major League Baseball career as a catcher for the Detroit Tigers. The premier catcher in the American League for several years from the 1960s into the early 1970s, he was named an All-Star in each of the eleven seasons in which he caught at least 75 games, and was the MVP runnerup with the 1968 champions for his handling of a pitching staff that included Mickey Lolich and Denny McLain, who became the first 30-game winner in the majors since 1934. A five-time Gold Glove Award winner,[2] Freehan held the major league record for highest career fielding percentage (.9933) until 2002, and also the records for career putouts (9,941) and total chances (10,734) from 1975 until the late 1980s;[3] he ranked ninth in major league history in games caught (1,581) at the end of his career. His career totals of 200 home runs and 2,502 total bases placed him behind only Yogi Berra and Bill Dickey among AL catchers when he retired.

Freehan attended the University of Michigan, where he set an all-time Big Ten Conference batting mark of .585 in 1961 and also played football.[4] He signed with his hometown Tigers in 1961 for a $100,000 bonus, which his father withheld until he graduated in 1966, and broke in briefly with 4 games at the end of the season before returning to the minors in 1962.[5] In 1963 he arrived in the majors to stay, working with former catcher Rick Ferrell on his defense and splitting catching duties with Gus Triandos, who was traded following the season. The 1964 campaign gave indications of what was to come; he batted .300 to finish sixth in the American League (AL), along with 18 home runs and 80 runs batted in.[6] He also led the AL by throwing out 53% of potential base stealers, earned the first of his ten consecutive All-Star selections, and placed seventh in the Most Valuable Player Award balloting.[7] In 1965 he led the AL in putouts for the first of six times, and received the first of his five consecutive Gold Gloves. In 1966 he again led the league in putouts, and also led in fielding percentage for the first of four times. 1967 was his best season yet, as he batted .282 – ninth in the AL as averages hit an all-time low – with 20 home runs, and broke Elston Howard's 1964 AL single-season records with 950 putouts and 1,021 total chances. Freehan led the league in both intentional walks and times hit by pitch, and finished third in the MVP voting after Detroit came within one game of the Boston Red Sox for the AL pennant. Freehan wearing protective catcher's gear as a member of the Detroit Tigers in 1966. He had an even better year in 1968 as he was considered the quiet leader of the 1968 World Series championship squad. In a year marked by dominant pitching, he posted career highs with 25 home runs and 84 RBI, fifth and sixth in the AL respectively.[10] Freehan broke his own records with 971 putouts and 1,050 total chances, marks which remained league records until Dan Wilson topped them with the 1997 Seattle Mariners. He was also hit by 24 pitches, the most in the AL since Kid Elberfeld in 1911. Despite playing in hitter-friendly Tiger Stadium, Freehan guided the Tigers' pitching staff to an earned run average of 2.71, third best in the league.[11] McLain won 31 games and Lolich won 17 as the Tigers ran away with the pennant. Because of his offensive and defensive contributions, he finished second to McLain in the MVP voting.[12] Freehan and Carl Yastrzemski were the only players to finish in the top ten of the voting in both 1967 and 1968, and only Yastrzemski reached base more often in 1968. He capped his season by recording the final out of the World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals, retiring Tim McCarver on a popup. He also made a pivotal play in Game 5, with the Cardinals leading the Series 3-1 and the game 3-2.[13] In the fifth inning, Lou Brock – whom Freehan had thrown out on an attempted steal in the third inning – doubled with one out and attempted to score on Julián Javier's single, but Freehan successfully blocked the plate with his foot, and held on to the ball even though Brock came in standing up in an attempt to knock the ball loose. Detroit won by scoring three runs in the seventh inning, and went on to take the last two games.[14] Although his later seasons rarely approached the brilliance of those two campaigns, he continued to turn out All-Star years for the Tigers. His offensive numbers dipped in 1970, but he threw out 47% of potential base stealers (his highest mark since 1964) and had a .997 fielding percentage. In 1971 he batted .277 with 21 home runs, and he hit .262 for the 1972 Eastern Division champions. He missed the first two games (both losses) of the 1972 American League Championship Series against the Oakland Athletics while recovering from a hairline fracture of his thumb, then doubled and homered in a 3-0 Game 3 win, in which Joe Coleman set a League Championship Series record with 14 strikeouts.[15] Freehan drove in the first of three runs in the tenth inning of Game 4 in a memorable 4-3 come-from-behind victory which tied the series;[16] he also drove in Detroit's only run in the 2-1 Game 5 loss.[17] In 1974, playing primarily at first base, he finished fifth in the American League in slugging average with a .479 mark.[18] He moved back behind the plate the following year to earn his eleventh All-Star berth. Freehan ended his career in 1976, batting .270.

Heinie Manush Detroit Tigers Hall of Famer PSA/DNA 3x5 Autograph

Heinie Manush Hall of Famer PSA/DNA 3x5 Autograph. Heinie came up with Detroit, and this autograph is expected to be from that era, 1923-27.

Henry Emmett Manush (July 20, 1901 – May 12, 1971), nicknamed "Heinie", was an American baseball outfielder. He played professional baseball for 20 years from 1920 to 1939, including 17 years in Major League Baseball for the Detroit Tigers (1923–1927), St. Louis Browns (1928–1930), Washington Senators (1930–1935), Boston Red Sox (1936), Brooklyn Dodgers (1937–1938), and Pittsburgh Pirates (1938–1939). After retiring as a player, Manush was a minor league manager from 1940 to 1945, a scout for the Boston Braves in the late 1940s and a coach for the Senators from 1953 to 1954. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1964. A native of Tuscumbia, Alabama, Manush was one of the best batters in baseball in the 1920s and 1930s. He compiled a .330 career batting average, won the American League batting championship in 1926 with a .378 batting average, finished one point short of a second batting championship in 1928, finished among the top four batters in the American League six times (1926, 1928–1929, and 1932–1934) and totaled more than 200 hits four times (1928–1929, 1932–1933). In 1928, he finished second in the voting for the American League Most Valuable Player (MVP) award after leading the American League with 241 hits and 47 doubles, while also hitting 20 triples and compiling 367 total bases. He also finished third in the MVP voting in 1932 and 1933 and was the leading batter on the 1933 Washington Senators team that won the American League pennant and lost the 1933 World Series to the New York Giants. Manush was also a solid defensive outfielder, appearing in 2,008 major league games, 1,381 as a left fielder, 312 as a center fielder, and 153 as a right fielder. He led the American League with 356 putouts as a left fielder in 1928, a .992 fielding percentage in left field in 1928, and five double plays turned by a left fielder in 1935. His 2,855 putouts in left field ranks 21st in major league history. Lot of 9 1961 Nu Scoops Baseball Cards ALL PSA Graded 8 NM-MT

Lot of 9 1961 Nu Scoops Baseball Cards ALL PSA Graded 8 NM-MT. Wow Super Sharp Vintage Baseball Cards. This Lot includes 406 Vern Law, 407 Runnels, 410 Cardwell, 423 Sievers, 425 Schoendienst, 430 Turley, 451 Braves, 459 Harvey Kuenn470 Sal Maglie. All PSA Graded 8's. Great Start to a PSA Set Registry run. Go For It! In 1961, Nu-Card put out a similar set called Baseball Scoops, covering many of the same events as in the previous year’s issue, plus they freshened up the collection with some 1960 season highlights, including the third card in the issue (No. 403), “Mazeroski’s Homer Wins Series For Bucs.” Again, around one-quarter of the cards spotlight World Series action, but the Scoops are standard size, with 80 in the issue and featuring the write-ups on the card backs. The Standard Catalog of Vintage Baseball Cards mentions that counterfeit versions of the ’61s may be in the hobby, with heavily blurred photo images a firm clue. The PSA Population numbers Show: 1960 Nu-Card Hi-Lites 1,656 graded with seven PSA 10s 1961: 7,194 graded with 235 PSA 10s. The Scoops set ends with one of the most dramatic hits in MLB postseason play: Bobby Thomson’s 1951 bottom-of-the-ninth round tripper to capture the N.L. flag and break Brooklyn’s heart. Although the card headline reads “Thomson’s Homer Sinks Dodgers,” you would think that perhaps a more eye-catching entry would have been used, such as the “Shot Heard ’Round The World!” – as that home run has been labeled – or maybe borrow a portion of radio announcer Russ Hodges’ famous call on Thomson’s home run: “The Giants Win The Pennant! The Giants Win The Pennant! The Giants Win The Pennant!”

Jose Canseco Lot of 2 PSA 9 MINT Rookie Cards

Jose Canseco Lot of 2 PSA 9 MINT Rookie Cards including 1986 Topps Traded and 1986 Donn Jennings Southern League All Stars #14. Sharp Clean RC's of the early days when we thought he was one thing. Now we know better. Still, he did put the ball in the stands, and entertain us. I have mellowed in my opinion of physical enhancements. I'm still open to change, but I don't care that much about who uses enhancements anymore. Entertain the crap out of us. What is pure in sports anymore. Whether it's enhancing your physical body, or putting together a super team of super stars in a league without enhancements ( or players caught enhancing). Anyhow, put these away for 20 years and see if the world changes their opinions and renders these worth a LOT more.

Vada Pinson Luisville Slugger Genuine K100 Game Bat

Vada Pinson Luisville Slugger Genuine K100 Game Bat. This bat shows good use. It is dark with the dark markings. Typical of Pinson's bats. It is marked Genuine K100 Vada Pinson Louisville Slugger on the barrel. There is tape on the handle. This is a bat Pinson would ikely have used in his capacity as a coach during his later years. It does not match his early career game bats. Still it is authentic, and matches the bats he used as a coach with among other teams the Florida Marlins who he was the very first coach the team ever had. He retired from baseball in 1994 and died of complications from a stroke in 1995. He is on a short list of borderline players who have very strong cases to be inducted into the Hal of Fame. He was the Reds career Hit leader until Pete Rose passed him. He is in the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame.

Chicago White Sox Cap Signed by 4 w/Former Owner Tom Reynolds, Vance Law, Mike Squires, and one other (Possibly Sparky Lyle). Appears to have been signed in 1982. Sports Specialties Snap Back Licensed Hat. Tom Reynolds was a minority owner of the Chicago White Sox in 1961. When he realized he could never become a majority owner he sold his interest and bought the Milwaukee Braves. He was behind the move from Milwaukee to Atlanta for the Braves. He was always a Chicago fan though. In the 1980's he headed the commission that built the new Chicago White Sox Stadium Construction Commission. 1996 Tribute to Sparky Anderson Signed Event Program W/George Brett Autographs

1996 Tribute to Sparky Anderson Signed Event Program. This lot includes the invitation, ticket and signed event program to the Feb 8, 1996 event at the Ritz Carlton honoring our Hall of Fame Manager of the Detroit Tigers. Also included are 2 separate George Brett Signed items: 1976 Wendy's Disc SportsCArd, and 1978 Topps Baseball Card. Beloved by players across the League Lines, Sparky was a gem of a person and a masterful Manager. The event supported CATCH, Sparky's favorite charity. The stars came out that night and signed this program. Including George Brett, Lance Parrish, Alan Trammell, John Doherty, Travis Fryman, Kirk Gibson, and Sparky Anderson himself. This Program honored our longtime manager (1979-1995) and took place just prior to the 1996 season. Which would be his first out of baseball since childhood. Thankfully, Sparky lived until 2010 and enjoyed the fruits of his labor and the accolades of a multitude of people he touched during his career.

Lot of 6 Chris Gomez Single Sweet Spot Signed OAL Baseballs

Lot of 6 Chris Gomez Single Sweet Spot Signed OAL Baseballs. Gomez was my autograph guest on my birthday in 1995 at my sportscard show at the Roseville Plaza. I was so sure he would be a star, I had him sign a bunch of extra baseballs. He did have a 16 year career and a .262 lifetime BA. Interestingly these exact balls made the cover of the Macomb daily newspaper when they ran a story on autographs in sports. Nowadays, the balls may be worth more than the signature, but here they are. Enjoy them as collectibles or discounted major league balls to play with.

Gary Moeller U of M Football Coach signed 8x10 Photo Framed

Gary Moeller U of M Football Coach signed 8x10 Photo Framed. Moeller was a three-year letterwinner at Ohio State University, playing primarily at linebacker under head coach Woody Hayes. He served as team co-captain in his senior year, along with offensive tackle Bob Vogel. After graduation in 1963, Moeller coached in the high school levels for several years before joining Bo Schembechler at Miami University. He moved with Schembechler to Michigan in 1969, where he served as defensive ends coach until 1973, when he was promoted to defensive coordinator. Schembechler had also been an assistant coach at Ohio State when Moeller was a player, and both were members of the FWAA 1961 National Championship team. Moeller was head coach of the University of Illinois from 1977 to 1979. He rejoined the Wolverines as quarterbacks coach for a season in 1981. Moeller has the rare distinction of serving as both an offensive (1987–1990) and defensive (1974–1976, 1982–1987) coordinator during his time at Michigan. He coached the Wolverines to a victory over Alabama in the 1988 Hall of Fame Bowl, while Schembechler recovered from heart surgery. Individual Michigan players to win national honors under Moeller include Desmond Howard, winner of the Heisman Trophy and other awards in 1991. Erick Anderson won the Dick Butkus Award in 1991. Moeller resigned from the head coaching position in May 1995 following a drunken incident at a local restaurant. After Michigan, Moeller was hired in June 1995 by the Cincinnati Bengals as tight ends coach under head coach David Shula and spent two seasons there. In 1997, he joined the Detroit Lions as the assistant head coach and linebackers coach under new head coach Bobby Ross. In 2000, Moeller was named head coach following Ross's sudden resignation nine games into the season. He was given a contract for the remainder of the season and two additional years by owner William Clay Ford, Sr., a move that seemingly guaranteed a future with the team. After the team narrowly missed the playoffs (losing their final game on a last-second 54-yard field goal), ownership endorsed Moeller as the Lions head coach for the foreseeable future. However, he was eventually fired by new team president Matt Millen in early 2001 and replaced by Marty Mornhinweg. Moeller finished with a 4–3 record as head coach, making him the only Lions head coach since Joe Schmidt to post a winning record during his tenure (Moeller has since been joined by Jim Caldwell in this regard). In 2001, Moeller joined the Jacksonville Jaguars as defensive coordinator under head coach Tom Coughlin. He voluntarily stepped down from that position after one season, signing a three-year contract with the Chicago Bears as linebackers coach under head coach Dick Jauron. He served in that role for two seasons, leaving when Jauron was fired after the 2003 season. 1981-82 Topps Basketball Master Base (198) Complete Set NM/MT

1981-82 Topps Basketball Master Base (198) Complete Set NM/MT. I repeat, this set has the 198 Card Master Base Set. Overall NM/MT some better, and possibly a few worse (although we didn't see any flaws other than a few centering). The 1981-82 Topps Basketball Cards Set contains a total of 198 cards, which were issued in regional issues, as well as a National issue. The National set was 66 cards, and was distributed across the country. There were three other regional issues of 44 cards each which allowed collectors from the Midwest, the East, and the West to each get different cards from teams in their region. The first 66 cards are the same, with the last 44 cards being unique to where a collector of the day lived. Distributing cards this way was meant to speak chatter among collectors to get them to trade and acquire cards from the other 2 regions. Due to this most collectors were only able to acquire a set of 110 cards, so a set is considered complete with that many. However, offered here is the 198 Card Master Base Set.

1992-1993 Topps Archives Basketball 2 Box Lot From Factory Sealed Case

1993 Topps Archives Basketball 2 Box Lot From Factory Sealed Case. Factory Sealed Boxes. Each box contains 24 packs. This was Topps entry pack into making Basketball cards. This was their first real product since 1981-82 Topps. This product issued during 1992-93 Card season includes all the first Topps Cards of all the big stars from the years they didn't make cards (1982-1992). The Cards are generally made in the style of the baseball cards from that year. 1984's have the frame of the 1984 Topps Baseball cards, etc. The Setincludes the first Topps Cards of Michael Jordan, Patrick Ewing, Karl Malone, Dennis Rodman, Charles Barkley, Clyde Drexler, etc. There is also a subset of #1 Draft Picks. All in all a great looking Set. It does suffer from the beginning of the over production era, but Sealed Boxes have many PSA possibilities, and are inexpensive enough to crack for pleasure and reminiscence! GREAT Conversation cards.

2015-16 Panini Select Kelly Tripucka City to City Dual Patch #'d 01/10

2015-16 Panini Select Kelly Tripucka City to City Dual Patch Detroit/Utah #'d 01/10. The Pistons rebuilt themselves under Trader Jack Mccloskey, and superstar Kelly Tripucka had to go to make room for Adrian Dantley, which lead to Mark Aguirre, Dennis Rodman and John Salley. Tripucka/Dantley trade moved 2 huge NBA superstars. It was giant news at the time in basketball. 2 of the Best Ever to come out of Notre Dame being Traded for each other. This card commemorates that trade with 2 game worn patch swatches. 1 from the Detroit Pistons, and 1 from the Utah Jazz. Super Short Printed to just 10, and this is the first one, Card #01/10. 2015-16 Panini Select BuyBack Allan Houston Auto #4/5

2015-16 Panini Select Detroit Pistons BuyBack Allan Houston Hand Signed Factory Sealed Autograph #4/5. Okay, this can be confusing. How is a card Serial #'d to 49 on the back, hand numbered 4/5 on the front, and includes a signature on a card that originally was not intended to be signed.??? The card manufacturers use a tactic called BuyBack, where they either actually Buy Back cards from the Hobby, or use cards they have sitting in their warehouse. They get the cards signed or enhanced in some way or another and reintroduce them in a later year product. Such was the case with this card. Originally issued in 2015-16 and just serial nuumbered /49. Panini must have retained a few, or obtained them from a 3rd party. They then got them signed and randomly inserted them in another product. Since these didn't show up on any checklist I found, I am not sure what product they reintroduced these cards in. HOWEVER, each autographed buyback Houston card is factory encased in an official and authentic Panini Case with the Panini Logo Seal. Bordering on being unknown in the hobby, this card is extremely short printed and othersie unknown to collectors. Houston starred for the Pistons before being leaving as a Free Agent to the New York Knicks where he replaced John Starks. He had a great 9 year run there including a trip to the 1999 Finals. The Allan Houston Rule is named after him, and he benefitted from a $100 million contract he signed wit hthe Knicks. Knee injuries cut his playing days short, and he never healed properly to play again.

Wacky Packages ANS 10 Factory Sealed Box 24 Packs

Wacky Packages ANS 10 Factory Sealed Box 24 Packs. 10 cards per pack this year. More Value Added inserts to search for including Highly Valuable Original Artist 1/1 One of a kind Sketch Cards, Magnets, Tattoos, "As Screamed on TV" and more For more than four decades, few successful consumer products have been safe from a jab or two from Wacky Packs. 2013 Topps Wacky Packages All-New Series 10 continues the tradition, taking on everything from baked goods to video games. The 2013 Topps Wacky Packages All-New Series 10 base set has 55 cards, each with a new parody painting. About half of the card backs fit together to make a trio of nine-card puzzles. Other backs continue poking fun with "coupons," Wacky Billboards and movie poster spoofs. Hobby boxes have three parallels. Blue cards fall one per pack and Silver cards are 1:8 packs. Gold parallels are extremely rare. Every pack also comes with either an Awful Apps or As Screamed on TV card. Awful Apps, which debuted in ANS 9, is a ten-card set that pokes fun at the games and gadgets found on Smart Phones. As Screamed on TV is a nine-card set. Other inserts in 2013 Topps Wacky Packages All-New Series 10 include Magnets (10 cards, exclusive to retail packs), Tattoos (10 cards, exclusive to retail packs) and Sketch Cards (800 total for the entire product run). Collector Edition Hobby Box Info: The Wacky Packages brand has long been a staple for set collectors. While recent years have brought on sketch cards and other hits, they've been relatively tough to find and not a major focus. 2013 Topps Wacky Packages All-New Series 10 adds to the collectibility, for those who want something more than a base set and inserts, but introducing new Collector Edition packs and boxes. They have fewer cards per pack and a higher price tag. The trade off is more hits and several exclusive inserts. Rather than the ten cards each regular hobby pack has, Collector Edition packs have just six. The price per pack also doubles. However, Collector packs are loaded with inserts, cutting a lot of the base cards out of the equation. Each pack has both a Red and a Black parallel. Going back to its origins, Collector packs introduce a pair of Ludlow parallels that have different backs. The concept of retro back variations has been popular in sports card products like Allen & Ginter for years. Ludlow Commemorative Back cards fall one per 2013 Topps Wacky Packages All-New Series 10 Collector Edition Hobby box. Red backs are inserted one per case. Collector packs also have a Cloth Sticker parallel, which fall four per case. Each of these amped up boxes comes with either a sketch card, Artist Autograph, Printing Plate or original Wacky Packages Buyback. Buybacks include an entire set of 30 Original Series 1 white back cards from 1973. Other than some limited edition online offerings, this is the first time a traditional Wacky Packages product has delivered a hit per box. Shaped Sketch Cards include work from Brent Engstrom, Neil Camera, Sam Gambino, Matthew Kirscht, Mark Parisi, Mark Pingitore, Joe Simko and Colin Walton. Artist Autographs are signed versions of base cards. Signatures come from the card's original painter. Commercial Star Autographs deliver signatures from several memorable faces. The checklist includes Matt Frewer (Max Headroom), John Gilchrist (Mikey from the Life Cereal commercials), Wendy Kaufman (the Snapple Lady), John Moschitta Jr. (Micro Machines) and Jimmy Nelson (a ventriloquist responsible for Danny O'Day and Farfel). Additional exclusive inserts in Collector Hobby boxes include Lost Wacky (3 cards, one per case), Collector's Bonus Cards (8 cards, one per box) and over-sized Wacky Billboard box toppers (6 cards, one per box). Product Configuration: Hobby - 24 packs per box, 10 cards per pack, Collector Hobby Edition - 14 packs per box, 6 cards per pack Price Point: Low-End Entertainment Card Target Audience: Wacky Packages Collectors, Set Builders, Nostalgic Card Collectors, Young Collectors
